HOW TO PREVENT MOLD
Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.
Keep moisture levels/sources in the home to a minimum. Be sure bathrooms are properly ventilated, properly use air-conditioning units and dehumidifiers, and exhaust fans whenever cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning.
Reduce the humidity in your home (to 30%-60%). Above 60%, and mold growth is more likely to take place. Below 30% is too dry, and can lead to trouble breathing, or cause irrational and other related issues.
Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Dust is a form of food for mold to grow. Be sure to regularly clean surfaces where dust can be found, especially areas that may produce condensation such as windowsills, piping, or exterior walls. In areas where there may be perpetual moisture problems, avoid installing carpet as it much more easily can trap dust.
